The Immolation of God

A theological miniature of divine self-burning.

Oh Brahman progenitor of all
From thy seed Saraswati and Brahma did yoke
Heaven it was all
But all was not well

To preserve Brahma did
Thus Vishnu did come
Preserve it did
Survive it could not
Like autumn leaves
Frail, brittle, fragile to touch
Brahma did know
The ultimate Goal
Creation for me and you
Vishnu hesitate he did not
Descending into darkness
No time left
Atop the Pyre, God did sit

Our Father
Our Mother
A spark was all it took
Agni did Vishnu call
To kill the Lord and Lady fair
Their bodies aflame
Transmuted to Ash
Shiva and Parvati now they were known

Cosmic light
Darkness abated
Vishnu was crowned Heaven's new Lord
And Shiva once Brahma
Lord of Hell
Yet all was still not finished
From God's death
A seed
The seeds of life
The Children of Brahma and Saraswati
Our dear parents, who gave themselves for us
Reborn anew through life

Much adversity did they face
From microbes
To Fish
To Lizards
Birds
Primates too
Yet all was not finished

One being
Exalted among all others
Man
Yet this was not man
But what would become of man
Vishnu doth protest
Yet Shiva knew best
A spark was all it took
Stolen from Vishnu's nook
Agni did Shiva call
To imbibe their mind
And so it was
Thus was born Man
Thus was reborn Brahma
Thus was reborn Saraswati

The Garden they did leave
Manu is the name he took
Shatarupa is the name she took
And from their grove they walked

A Godless world saved at last
The mind of Brahma finally reawoken
No longer in slumber
But inside the heart and minds of all Man
Created in thine image
To frolic
To play
To sing
To praise Thy name
So here we are
On our floating seed

May we survive
May we flourish
May we love
From Earth we shall go
Brahma's seed
Virgin Cosmos
Our destiny

So remember dear one
And know it well
Thy Mind is All
And the Mind is All
Not simply made by God
But the Children of God
Like Father like Son
Like Mother like Daughter
Within us all
That raging fire we do possess
Let us never forget
What it meant
When God was burnt alive

Gate gate
Paragate
Parasamgate
Bodhi
Svaha
